Fat-water separated myocardial T1 mapping with IDEAL-T1 saturation recovery gradient echo imaging

چکیده
Background Myocardial T1 mapping is emerging as powerful tool for tissue characterization, however the presence of intramyocardial or epicardial fat can contaminate T1 values through partial voluming, or preclude analysis, particularly in areas of infarct or thin walled myocardium, such as the right ventricle. We propose and evaluate a new combined fat-water separated saturation-recovery imaging sequence (IDEAL-T1) for water-separated T1 mapping.

Characterization of myocardial T1-mapping bias caused by intramyocardial fat in inversion recovery and saturation recovery techniques
BACKGROUND Quantitative measurement of T1 in the myocardium may be used to detect both focal and diffuse disease processes such as interstitial fibrosis or edema. A partial volume problem exists when a voxel in the myocardium also contains fat. Partial volume with fat occurs at tissue boundaries or within the myocardium in the case of lipomatous metaplasia of replacement fibrosis, which is comm...
متن کاملSpectral Adiabatic Inversion Recovery (SPAIR) MR imaging of the Abdomen
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has become a major imaging tool for the depiction and characterization of abdominal disease. Standard abdominal MRI protocols encompass different forms of T1-weighted (T1w) and T2-weighted (T2w) data acquisition. These sequences can be collected in less than 20 seconds, which typically is within the patients’ ability to suspend respiration. Hence, artifacts due ...
متن کاملPilot data of right ventricular myocardial T1 quantification by free-breathing fat-water separated dark blood saturation-recovery imaging
Background Right ventricular (RV) T1 quantification is desirable in managing congenital heart disease and pulmonary hypertension patients where RV fibrosis is implicated. RV T1 quantification is technically difficult because of the thin trabeculated mobile wall of complex geometry, impacted by adjacent blood and epicardial fat, plus proximity to sternal wires in some cases. Prior work has measu...
متن کاملThe effect of inversion times on the minimum signal intensity of the contrast agent concentration using inversion recovery t1-weighted fast imaging sequence
Background :Inversion recovery (IR) pulse sequences can generate T1-weighted images with a different range of inversion time (TI) to suppress or null the signal intensity (SI) for a specified tissue. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effect of TI values on the concentration of the contrast agent, which leads to a minimum signal intensity, using an inversion recovery T1-weighted 3-dim...
متن کاملTemporally resolved parametric assessment of Z-magnetization recovery (TOPAZ): Dynamic myocardial T1 mapping using a cine steady-state look-locker approach.
PURPOSE To develop and evaluate a cardiac phase-resolved myocardial T1 mapping sequence. METHODS The proposed method for temporally resolved parametric assessment of Z-magnetization recovery (TOPAZ) is based on contiguous fast low-angle shot imaging readout after magnetization inversion from the pulsed steady state. Thereby, segmented k-space data are acquired over multiple heartbeats, before...
